Rationale

The Problem Statement

A close look at the existing textbook revealed critical gaps:

Activities were too basic and uninspiring — students were not challenged
No explicit focus on collaborative learning or peer interaction
Creative thinking and spontaneous language use were not encouraged
Almost no integration of modern technology in lessons
💡 This is the "Rationale" in the paper's title — the reason a full redesign was urgently needed.

The Fairness Challenge

The biggest problem with group work: how do you grade fairly when contributions are unequal?

!
One student might do 80% of the work while others contribute little
!
A traditional group grade doesn't reflect individual effort or contribution
!
This leads to student frustration, demotivation, and unfair outcomes
⚖️ This study directly confronts this challenge with a multi-layered democratic solution
